After earning a Diploma in Accounting & Finance at the City of London College I began my training with a medium size firm of accountants in London. Once qualified as a Chartered Accountant, I joined Touche Ross (now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu).

After only 18 months with Touche, I was tempted away from the profession and joined an insurance company in Sussex. After four years there, I was asked to move to Bermuda to run their offshore captive insurance company. This was the start of my overseas travels and after a further insurance assignment in New York I joined Sheraton Hotels in Boston as assistant controller. In 1987, I was made a corporate Vice President.

In 1996, I joined a contract research organization initially as European Finance Director and latterly as General Manager of their French subsidiary based in Paris. Then in 2000, some former colleagues invited me to be Chief Financial Officer of an internet based hotel reservation company in Scotland. For three years we rode the wave of dot com frenzy up and then down, finally selling the company in 2003, a good result considering what happened to most of our peers at the time.

I then acted as a management consultant for two years but the solitary role and unpredictability of assignments was not satisfying so in 2005 I bought a small accountancy practice in Lewes, East Sussex. Here was a business that I could grow and merge into something much bigger. It was then that serendipity raised its head with a letter from Aspen Waite looking for merger opportunities in Sussex. We quickly realized that our aspirations were the same and so in June 2006, my business was merged with Aspen Waite and I became a partner in the new entity with Regional responsibilities for our offices in Lewes and Fareham, Hampshire.

Apart from all round accounting, finance, and tax knowledge I have particular expertise in the Insurance and Hospitality industries, and working with charities as well as experience in buying and selling companies. I am also familiar with US accounting practices and taxation.

My interests outside of work include powerboating, skiing, bridge, and watching rugby. I am married with two adult children and live in Lingfield Surrey.
