I am proud and excited to announce a new partnership formed with Aspen Waite and the Somerset Vikings.
Somerset Vikings are a rugby League Team formed at the beginning of 2003 as part of the Rugby League's plans to develop the game further beyond the traditional areas in the north of England. Initially the side was made up of a mixture of Royal Marines based in Taunton and Exeter, together with a number of local Rugby Union players keen to try the 13 man code.
The Vikings are fortunate to play at Hyde Park which is also the home of the Taunton Rugby Union club. In 2004/5 the Vikings became a club subject to a formal constitution, and are now run by an elected committee.
The Vikings are members of the Rugby League Conference and play in the South West and Midlands division, although with the support of Aspen Waite have now been accepted to the National Premiership division for 2007.
So far they have never finished lower than 3rd in the league and were crowned Southwest Champs in 2004. Somerset Vikings are an ambitious club, who are starting a social second team in this year (if anyone fancies a game) as well as junior development programmes through local schools.The club have a number of sponsors; as well as Aspen Waite as the main sponsor, there is Falcon Self Drive who have supported the club from the beginning, ITV, Orchard FM and International Tiles.
